T.V. Show Heroes

Heroes is a show about a bunch of people getting powers. The show has an amazing cast and let me say this, I do not care what you think about the show; I loved it! It also gave me a T.V. hangover, which just shows just how much I loved it. The show, in my opinion, ended prematurely and its successor, Heroes Reborn, did not live up to its legacy what-so-ever!
Even though the main protagonist, Peter Petrelli, even-though he was a pure hearted, good natured guy, he was someone who I could connect with and I did care for him, (unlike Tommy who seemed to be a whiny knock off of him) and I did find myself worrying about him right until the unjust end of the show. In-fact he was exactly what the show needed and, yes, I would love to know more about what happened to him after the show.
Now I can not talk about Peter without talking about the amazing kind hearted sweet and slightly naive master of time and space Hiro Nakamura! Who, despite his naivete, was so unwittingly charismatic and enthusiastic that it would have even Darth Sidious turn to the light and follow him to save that cheerleader and stop that exploding man! He was sweet and sometimes was quite wise and I love his and Ando's journey over the course of this amazing show! I would have loved to see how their lives would have been when they became brothers in law.
Then there is Ando himself who was a good and light-hearted character that kept Hiro both in trouble and honest, which was not unwelcome and kept their plot lines interesting. His bromance with Hiro was one of many highlights of this show, which made it even more interesting when (spoiler alert) Ando, himself got powers.
Next is the immortal cheerleader herself, Claire Bennet. Even-though she was the character who split fans some hate her and others like her, and I'm in the like section and my reasons it because she is her own character and she does not do what she is told. She even calls out her adopted father Noah, her grand mother and many, many more. In fact, even-though she does experiment with her powers, she does what any teenager would do if they had that power! Yes she is a bit of a damsel in distress but she too is aware of that and I feel that her character arch was about her learning to save herself.
Speaking of which, HRG or the man with the plan or Noah Bennet was a good character, who trod a fine line between family man and company man, who rounded people with powers up, until his adopted daughter's immortality was revealed. From then on he shows his love for his family and his 'Claire Bare'. He not only shows us just how devoted he is to his daughter's safety but also that he was a good red herring for the real threat of the company, his boss, (spoiler alert) he kills.
Then there is the mind reading policeman Matt Parkman, who goes through extremes of highs and lows thought out the show. From his job as a policeman then ending up single, and he was the only one who seemed to be just trying to keep himself together and get his life back. (I must admit that his turn to the dark side in Reborn caused me to have mixed feelings in me.)
Then there was Micah, who was a boy that could talk to machines and any computer, (who was well played by Noah Gray-Cabey) he was a vulnerable child and out-lived his parents, Niki and D.L. Who were good and strong characters both of which I wish lasted past season two. Even-though the three of them had an amazing arch, I do feel that in season one it was mainly Niki's journey trying to keep her son, and then her husband safe. Even-though Ali Larter's other character, Tracy Strauss, Niki's triplet, was an amazing way to keep the actress in the show and create a good plot twist, I honestly feel that Niki was the most memorable of the two.
Now for the Cheerleader's biological father, Nathan Petrelli, who I had mixed feelings towards, for he was always in the arias of grey and one episode he seemed to be the worst human being and the next he seemed to take a U turn! It was all too clear that he cared deeply for his brother Peter, but his greed and stats seemed to be, sometimes more important, however by the end of the arch he always seemed to learn the error of his ways, which is why I have mixed feelings towards him, right until the end. He was a shark but he also seemed to have a heart.
Then there is Angela Petrelli she was a character that shifted to a cold hearted woman, who seemed to hardly care for anyone. She always manipulating her children and grandchildren to her own ends, one of which drove me to hate her but as the series went on she became more caring for her youngest son, Peter, and I even started to like her character as it went on. Even her turn in Reborn was good, but I honestly wish that there was a moment where she officially became that character.
Now, the villeins, my least favourite villein, has to be Erica Kravid, I hated her, not because of what she did, more because what she didn't do, she may have been a good villein on paper, but she was not Sylar and if Tim Kring wanted to really bring back Heroes, he needed a Sylar, not a company woman. In fact Abam Monroe by his episode runtime had done more, and killed more on screen and most of what she did that would have made her on par with Sylar she did off screen or she got others to do, which other main villeins did, but even they did things on screen that got me involved.
Then my next main villein that I did not like but not as much as Erica was Samuel Sullivan I just did not get where he was going to go, he at first wanted to recruit Peter into his carnival as the new leader, to trying to expose people with powers to the world! He had a tragic love backstory that seemed to go nowhere. Even-though he did kill and other things on screen, (which is why he is only my second least favourite villein) I felt that his sympathetic backstory did drag down his presence.
Now I come to Emile Danko, I did not feel that much sympathy towards him what so ever! That's all I have to say about him.
Then there was Adam Monroe, who was a good villein and I liked his origin story and I found it interesting that Tim Kring chose to have him to become the one of the biggest mistakes by Hiro. I liked the way that his 21st century plot line had him be a master manipulator and his past plot line was about him being moulded into a hero by Hiro and at the end I even liked the fact that it was his heart that became the downfall which was a better tragic love backstory than Samuel's. I found his return in season three funny and a good way to build up to Arthur Petrelli as the new villein.
Speaking of which Arthur Petrelli was my second favourite villein, which means that Peter must have the worst parents ever! Well there are worse, but Peter was the one in Heroes who has the worst, after all his mother wanted him to explode and his father took his powers away and reduced him to a lab rat! This for me was a good way to show how evil this villein was and I was honestly worried about and felt sorry for Peter, well more than I already was. He killed people and manipulated people from other people with and without powers, his own son's, his grandchildren and even his own wife! He even tried to kill them all at one point, even causing Peter to at least try to kill him! This one was well done but he did not surpass one of his predecessor.
Now, finally my favourite villein that as much as Tim Kring tried, Sylar. This one was one of those villeins had me, 'calmly' excuse myself from the room and charge up stares and clogging up the drains for a couple of weeks. He had a presence about him that you knew that every time he was on screen someone was going to end up dead. He was the one that killed characters that we cared for as well as people that we don't even know about. He had a tendency to be unpredictable too which made him just that terrifying to watch, but I must admit his turn to the good side was a bit off putting, however I did like at the same time.
Now the story of season one was my favourite, which is about, Save The Cheerleader Save The World, then it all leads to and exploding man, although things get complicated with the villains of the season making things more interesting to watch. I also felt that each character had their own story within this, Peter's was to serve as the main protagonist, Mohinder's was to act as the eyes of the viewer, Clair's was the damsel in distress, while Noah and Niki's was all about keeping their families safe and together, Nathan's was all about his struggle with being the one who everyone wants him to be and who he wants to be. This ended in a good well rounded finale.
My second favourite story was season three part one, where our Heroes have to fight Arthur Petrelli. These two arcs were where the series peaks. After all this had a personal weight to it as the main bad guy in this arc was in-fact Peter's father, and the guy was a ruthless man who would kill his own children or grandchildren, just to get what he wanted, and even reduced one to a lab rat! This man did not care about anyone what-so-ever, not even his own wife, so I must admit that my favourite line said by Angela to her husband; “Tell me do I want to kiss you or kill you?” This showed that even-though Angela was a very cold person, she was the one who cared the most about her sons, even-though how twisted she was. The only down side to this was Mohinder's turn to the dark side.
Then there was the second story of that season where the Heroes were being captured, well all but Nathan and Clare, well until his secret came out. It was a good story, even-though I could not care less for the hypocritical villain but this side did have it's good moments, like the interactions Peter had with his mother, the father daughter moments with Clare and Nathan. I also like Sylar's end of the story. I also liked the fact that this story had a lasting consequence of a character's death.
Then it was followed by season four, which was alright however, this was where I felt that the writing failed and I could not help but feel that the season was cut short, and Tim Kring was forced to tie up loose ends, where I could not help but see that this season's villain of original Heroes was the weakest. Even season two's was not as indecisive as Simon and I never saw him as a threat, I saw him as a childish man that did not quite know how to grow up.
Then there is the season that everyone hates season two. I must admit that I liked this one and I did enjoy it, even-though Sylar was driving most of the way through it. I liked the villain of this and I even liked the side characters but that one and if you are a fan you'll know the one. Regardless, it did not drag the story down that much. I also liked Mohider and Noah's attempts of taking down the company. I know that most people might disagree with my opinion but I have promised my honesty not following the crowd.
Now Reborn, I hated this one. It did not live up to the legacy of the franchise and it had potential here and there and it did show deep themes, however they all seemed to be forced and with twelve episodes were not ideal of showing a new protagonist. Speaking of which, Nathan Bennet/ Tommy was nothing but a cheep nock off of Peter and it did not do justice to Clare, by having her killed off in childbirth. Then there was Erica, who was in fact the weakest villain in the whole Heroes franchise and it was not well written, unlike season one and three and honestly, I think that channel five only let this season be released so that the franchise could die.
Now to wrap this up, my ultimate opinion of Heroes, it was a good show that was cut too short and Reborn did not live up to its legacy. I could not help but feel that Tim Kring wanted to build the series and have it end with Peter and Sylar battling it out on a grand scale but I guess we would never know. Unless a miracle happened and Heroes did return with Peter back as the main protagonist and Tim Kring got the best writers and the best ideas to get Heroes to finally have that long, over due return that would do it justice!

Anyway, I am Sedna Dragon, and this has been my review. Leave your comments and thoughts below. So, if you're a Yami Shorter, see you next week (unless I'm ill like last week in that case I'm so sorry) and if you're a B.A.A.C.C.M.M.L.ater then see you the week after (unless I'm ill) where I will go into the history of Disney and Dreamworks.
